A word from the founder of the office

Being charged with a crime can be the most stressful event you will ever experience in your life. If you are reading this, it is likely that you or a loved one has been arrested by the police or charged by the public prosecutor. Your reputation has been damaged, your freedoms have been restricted and now you have to defend yourself at the court of law. You’ve been through a lot, but unfortunately, this is just the beginning. Allow me to address you with a few sentences. Criminal law is my great passion. I consider it the backbone of the legal system and a pillar of legal science. Because of all that, since the very beginning of my practice as a lawyer, over ten years ago, the focus of my work has been criminal law matters.

The Prosecutor’s Office will use all the resources at its disposal to prosecute you and obtain a conviction at the court of law. With unlimited money, power and resources at theirdisposal, they have the means as well as the determination to achieve this.

I understand that just being accused of a crime can be extremely stigmatizing. However, being found guilty can lead to a number of very undesirable consequences.

Even if you are not sentenced to prison, a criminal conviction can have profound consequences for your future, such as:

  1. Loss of job,
  2. Loss of family and friends,
  3. Loss of immigration status,
  4. Loss of other opportunities and
  5. Loss of reputation in society and ofself-respect.

As difficult as it may seem, remember that you are presumed innocent during this process and that you are doing the right thing by exploring your legal options.

Customer Oriented Services

Defending your rights is not just about knowing the law. I believe that understanding your story is also of utmost importance. Every case is different, and every client has individual needs. I will always take the time to meet with you to learn more about your personal circumstances and priorities, so that I can represent youin the bast way.

I said at the outset that I am passionate about criminal law and am fully invested in the cases I represent. Regardless of the situation, I never lose sight of the interests of our clients, that is you.

Strategic Approach

No two clients are the same. I understand that the circumstances of your case are unique and require a personalized approach in dealing with any criminal charge you face.

My first step with any new client is to listen. Understanding the exact circumstances that led to you receiving a criminal charge is key to determining a strategy that will lead to the best possible outcome. We will also discuss your goals in resolving the criminal charge, which may include avoiding a criminal record, avoiding jail time, and/or reducing fines.

Once I have a comprehensive understanding of your situation, we will discuss next steps and outline a strategy that will be in your best interest, such as proceeding to trial, attempting to reach a plea agreement with the prosecution, or pleading guilty to a lesser charge.
Most importantly, no matter which way we go, with your trust, together we will choose the best strategy for you and I will fight for you.

Understanding Criminal Procedure

I understand that your first question when you are charged with a crime is “now what?” I am here to guide you through your concerns and ensure that the process is as smooth as possible.

In criminal proceedings, the principle of “equality of arms” applies. This means that all the evidence that the public prosecution wants to use in the proceedings against you must be delivered to me. Once I have had an opportunity to review the material against you, we will meet to discuss what I believe will be the best course of action to proceed with your defense. This may include going to trial, trying to reach a plea deal with the prosecution, or pleading guilty to a lesser offense.

Regardless, I will make sure that you are fully informed every step of the way and that you understand all aspects of whatever path we take.

I am convinced that you will be satisfied with our cooperation.

With respect,
Zoran J. Minic, Attorney at Law
